The new cover of Benthic -Book 1, in ink. I haven't decided how I'm coloring this yet...

I don't do very much with Benthic in color, so even for me its a treat to see characters in color. I gave the bamboo drawings the Photoshop treatment. Issa looks hot and Karda looks like a total crazy person, so I must be doing something right.

I've been really bad about updating over the past month or so, cause scanning is never at the top of my list of fun things to do. BUT. There's plenty of work to show, so I'm getting back on the horse.I've been broadening my inking techniques lately, trying to find a sweet spot between sketchy and clean that I like. The first couple tests I did were of Karda and Issa, and I figured I'd go ahead and share. Lots of bamboo pen and bamboo brush with drybrushing, in addition to the usual suspects.

I've been having a tougher time than usual sitting down to scan and edit material for the blog lately. I draw on my lunch breaks quite a lot, here are a couple of the ones I decided to ink. Freakishly similar poses. There's a story in there somewhere...

In today's installment, we'll see the main crew members of the Methuselah - Issalai, Zef, and Olcee. I thought drawing all the random people working on the ship was overkill
So since I never really have enough time to do everything that I want to do, I'm getting better at multitasking. I write while I'm either on the train or at work, and when I sit down to watch the shows I keep up with I draw. I do more listening than watching a lot of times. This I doodled out during the most recent episode of Rescue Me (which is how she ended up with that skirt) and touched up through watching some Burn Notice. I don't think it was originally supposed to be Issa but hey, they have sayings about habits right? I actually ended up accidentally destroying my nib holder trying to switch out nibs, so this is courtesy of nothing but my five-year-old Raphael 8404 brush.
I'm pretty sure that brush is made with hair from the Energizer Bunny.
Full pages soon to come.I don't think Issalai looked this latin when I first started drawing her. I blame this new room of mine. The walls are peach, the radiator is turquoise, and I'm constantly craving Mexican food. I need to paint before I start drawing nothing but mariachi bands.
First one from the new studio in the new apartment - brush pen and ball point pen over a really quick pencil sketch. Once I start putting up stuff from the new book, you'll probably be sick of seeing her.
